nuits de satin, from marie antoinette to you

Marilyn

When Sofia Coppola was searching for the costumes for "Marie Antoinette," she found the naughty bits courtesy of Nuits de Satin's Ghislaine Rayer and Patrice Gaulupeau. The pair has one of the largest collections of antique lingerie in the world, numbering over 7,000 pieces that range from 1820s wasp-waist corsets to 1950s girdles. After many years of selling their never-worn finds at the Paris flea market (their clients included Dita Von Teese, Alexander McQueen, the infamous corset-maker Mr. Pearl), the partners decided to replenish their dwindling stock with their own collection, which they've based on traditional construction methods. "Most lingerie today is made in China in stretch fabrics, but we work with real Chantilly lace and the few ateliers that are left in France," says Rayer. Their finest remaining vintage pieces, meanwhile, are now available for designers and historians to view. Nuits de Satin, 5 rue Jean Bologne 75016 Paris, www.nuitsdesatin.com.

cody ross, the invisible man? unlikely

Priestess

Most new designers covet a little ubiquity, but Priestess NYC's Cody Ross cops to a markedly different fantasy: staying out of sight—temporarily, at least. "You know the invisible ring—the 'Myth of Gyges'? Well, with the ring, Gyges could sneak into the castle and everything was accessible. So, given the choice, I might be invisible for a day in New York and just cruise around. Then it's back to work." Given the buzz surrounding the label, Ross—even with Platonic superpowers—isn't likely to fly below the radar any time soon. Having recently been picked up by Lane Crawford and Colette, his two-seasons-old line, notable for its vividly hued, finely textured sweaters, dresses, and tops, is gaining a fast following among sartorially savvy girls like Juliette Lewis and Maggie Rizer. Though Ross admits to having a thing for decades past (and the Day-Glo colors associated with them), he sees the coming months in a slightly different hue. "There's lots of momentum at the moment. I'd say the future looks rosy."

Cannes

(The Dior Party at the 61st annual Film Festival pictured above.)

The Film Festival is always sure to draw more stars than any other movie festival out there. This year, for the 61st annual celebration, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (Dolce & Gabbana) decided to take advantage, and throw a huge party for the stars, just for the sheer fun of it.

Being that D&G is one of the bigger designers out there, both well-known and super classy, their party immediately drew in dozens of actresses who are currently visiting , including Lindsay Lohan, , and Natalie Portman.

The party took place at Baoli, Port Canto, which is located in the South of France. Click the links below to view from the event. And let me just say, Lindsay Lohan’s dress looks like the most comfortable thing ever created.

Who was Naomi Campbell’s dance partner at the hottest Cannes bash?

Naomi Campbell
The British tabs are detailing Naomi Campbell’s two different male party partners at with great relish.
And I’m not talking about Stefan Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, the fashion designers the former supermodel is posing with in the photo above.Lawrence Bender
The Daily Mail ran several of a “curly haired man” Campbell was seen dancing veeery closely with at the Dolce & Gabbana party late Friday night.
Guess the Brits didn’t recognize famous producer Lawrence Bender (”Kill Bill,” “An Inconvenient Truth,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction”) and good friend of Arianna Huffington.
OK, he’s no P. Diddy or Dennis Hopper, also at the VIP bash.
But “unidentified curly haired man?”
That’s gotta sting.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

Tomorrow (May 20, 2008) is the day that National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets finally comes out on DVD. We took the kids to see this in the theater and I think it was even better than the first one; plus, it’s such good family friendly fun (in other words, you’re not embarrassed to sit through it with your 13 year old!).

Here’s what you can look forward to getting on the DVD:

DVD:

• Audio Commentary -Director Jon Turteltaub and Academy award winning actor Jon Voight provide exclusive commentary for the film.

• Deleted Scenes -Jon Turteltaub introduces extended and deleted scenes including “Pursuit At Rushmore: The Unseen Chapter, ” in which the intrepid group of treasure hunters makes its way into the Black Hills of South Dakota while doing their best to avoid the FBI.

• The Treasure Reel -A collection of outtakes and bloopers from the set of National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

• Secrets of a Sequel -Filmmakers Jon Turteltaub and Jerry Bruckheimer join the cast and crew to talk about making the follow-up to the phenomenally successful National Treasure.

• The Book of Secrets: On Location -From the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota to London’s historic Buckingham Palace, National Treasure: Book of Secrets was given unprecedented access to previously off limits locations. Go behind the scenes at the Library of Congress, Mount Vernon, Buckingham Palace and the Statue of Liberty in Paris.

• Street Stunts: Creating the London Chase -Take a high speed tour of London’s most recognizable landmarks as the film’s unforgettable adrenaline-fueled chase scene is created in historic city streets.

• Inside the Library of Congress -An informative feature about the workings of the nation’s most important library provides an up-close look at precious national artifacts and the conservation techniques that safeguard these priceless pieces of American history.

• Underground Action -The sets, the stunts and the action that create the film’s powerful climax as the race to reach the City of Gold unfolds.

• Cover Story: Crafting the Presidents’ Book -A fascinating look at the propmasters and designers who created the legendary book central to National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

• Evolution of a Golden City -A look at the sets, CGI techniques and visual effects that brought the legendary City of Gold to life.

• Knights of the Golden Circle -Who were the real Knights of the Golden Circle? A short documentary traces one of America’s most mysterious and influential organizations to its roots, including interviews with KGC expert Warren Getler, the cast and crew.

• Easter Eggs -Including a conversation about Beverly Hills High School with fellow alums Nic Cage and Jon Turteltaub, a look at the White House lawn scene as filmed in front of a blue screen and much more.

And here’s a couple of National Treasure 2 clips. First, the trailer:

The Mt. Rushmore scene:

And a couple more scenes:

I have to say these National Treasure movies are just about the most enjoyable films you can get; I highly recommend them, not only for the adventure stuff, but for the sense of history. You’re actually learning something while you’re watching - hey, it’s a great way to justify a couple hours with some popcorn, right?
