As the new ambassador for MTV’s “Staying Alive” Foundation, former Destiny’s Child singer, Kelly Rowland, took an HIV test in an effort to raise awareness about the disease that affects 22 million adults and children in Africa.  Late last week, Kelly arrived at the Kenyatta hospital in Nairobi to take a public stand against stigma and undergo an HIV test.  “For me, knowing your status is glamorous because then you get to carry that with you and you get to protect yourself,” she tells CNN reporters.

As Kelly took her test, a 22-year-old Kenyan man, John Ngugi, also got tested and marveled at going through the experience with a celebrity sitting right next to him: “As a young person from Mathare slum and having a superstar to actually have a test with, it is just a big promise for me and a big promise for my community and I am just grateful for the test.”

“You could take a situation like having HIV and think of it as having a disability and think of it as something that is going to bring you down,” said Rowland, “but I have met kids and young people that are just so inspiring. They inspire me.”

I am really happy to hear that Kelly is taking part in such a worthwhile cause.  I really believe that it is important to use your fame and fortune to do something good in the world and she’s doing that!

Sweet! Former Destiny Child member and close friend of Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, will be reportedly appearing on the Australian version of the hit television series, Project Runway. She’ll be arriving in Sydney, Australia on May 30th to commence a series of promotional tours.

While there, Kelly, a big fan of the series, will appear as a celebrity guest on the show. The contestants have been assigned the task of designing an outfit suitable enough for her to wear next week at the Foxtel set.  A source from Project Runway says, “It wont be your obvious red carpet garb - Kelly has something far more interesting in mind and will really put the designers’ talents to the test.” 

It should be interesting to see what the contestants come up with and what Kelly’s reaction will be!

Last week, during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, former Destiny’s Child member, Kelly Rowland, was in Cannes at the Prince Albert of Monaco Foundation. I’m not exactly sure if I’m digging the dress that our girl Kelly wore, but her hair looks great!

Beyonce has ended speculation about whether she is now the wife of Hip Hop mogul, Jay-Z.  Some fans (myself included) have chosen not to fully accept the news until one of them confirmed it. 

Bey recently said of the secret wedding last month: “I don’t deny it (the wedding). I just don’t talk about it. We’ve never talked about us and it’s kind of protected our relationship. I think it’s kept us out of tabloid drama.  A lot of actresses that have had successful relationships don’t talk about them, so neither do I.”

Well, I agree that it’s probably best that they don’t talk about it for those reasons but there has been tabloid drama (Jay’s reported Baby Mama, Bey’s supposed affair with LeBron James and Jigga’s with Rihanna, etc…).

Former Destiny’s Child member, Kelly Rowland, performed at the Benefit for the Prince Albert of Monaco Foundation a couple days ago.  I’m sorry but I’m not digging that outfit but I still love her (the hair isn’t too bad, thankfully).  She also ran into Star Jones who, despite going through a divorce, looks like she’s having a good time.

Kelly Rowland was performing for Great American Gay Day in California, when a fan threw their hat at her and almost hit her in the face.

The backing music stopped as Kelly tried to identify the hat thrower. She told the fan to come to the front, where he apologized and Kelly resumed the concert.

Doh!
